Ian Strachan


Ian Strachan is a Technical and Management Consultant and manages MGA Southern Africa’s activities from offices in Cape Town and Dominica.

Prior to his joining MGA Inc (USA) in 1992 he held the following positions: 

 1988-1992 CEO and Deputy Chairman of The Sun Packaging Group 

 1974-1988 Managing Director of  Mono Containers Served on the board of several Major Companies

 1971-1973 General Manager Elvinco Group of company’s

 1965-1970 Swartklip Products Project Manager /factory Manager

 1960-1965 Vanderbijlpark Engineering Corporation -Engineering Trainee/Project          

Management and Industrial Management

 1955-1959 Iscor Millwright/Engineering trainee

 Currently Ian is the Managing Director of MGA Southern Africa and GMI Marketing and a Director of MGA Caribbean and the National Sea Rescue association of South Africa

Work Experience

His experience covers a broad spectrum of technologies in the Packaging and related industries at very senior levels. In addition to the many years of hands-on Management experience he has managed a broad spectrum of grass roots projects and re-structuring exercises in many parts of the world. Most of these projects involved the sourcing and introduction of new technologies and the follow up programs required to ensure the successful introduction and marketing of the product/technology.

Many of the companies assisted needed to be turned around to meet expected financial returns. His experience includes grass roots ventures, project and senior management, acquisitions, re-structuring, Productivity improvement programmes, Strategic Planning and implementation in the following industries:

Plastics Extrusion and Co-extrusion, Thermoforming, Injection Moulding, Blow Moulding, Injection Stretch Blow Moulding, Steam Chest Moulding, EPS foam packaging, Bag-in-box, Profile Extrusion, Paper cups and tubs, Solid Waste Management, Plastics recycling, Plastics Polymer Manufacture, Co-mingled Plastics recycling and Manufacture
